A native New Yorker, Hope Morgan arrived in Austin’s jazz scene in the mid 1980s. Full of life and aggressiveness, her renditions of jazz standards are memorable to all who hear her.
Hope began singing in church at five. She’s learned from such jazz greats as Archie Shepp, Stanley Cowell, Ken McIntyre and Max Roach. In Austin she worked with the late great Gene Ramey upon his re-emergence to the jazz scene. In recent years she has extended her performances throughout Texas and Mexico.
In 1995 the City of Austin declared June 8, 1995 Hope Morgan Day. That year, she was also named Best Female Jazz Vocalist by the Austin Jazz Players and Critics Poll.
