Women in Jazz let loose its magic on Friday, September 18th, and Saturday, September 19th, 1998, at the Helm Fine Arts Center, Austin.

This concert featured outstanding local vocalists and Detroit’s all female jazz band, Straight Ahead. Straight Ahead’s participation represents the first time Women in Jazz has presented an all female jazz band.

The series also included a Vocal Workshop on Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Helm Fine Art Center. Topics included performance techniques, lead by Mady Kaye Music Services, and “Making It in the Music Business,” lead by Pamela Hart. It was free for vocalists seriously considering the jazz genre.
